ATL: Welcome NOELLE STILES

Touring Artist Noelle Stiles rolls in to MINT Gallery on the Dance Truck

On June 25 at 8:30 pm, prolific Portland-based dance maker, Noelle Stiles makes her Southeast premiere at MINT Gallery in a multi-media performance designed for Dance Truck. “Here Begins A Region of Eclipse” brings new layers of meaning to the truck bed-as stage in this thoughtful glimpse into the memories, artifacts and rituals surrounding the space between sleep and wakefulness.

Inspired during a period of restlessness, Noelle says she began creating the work around the liminal shadows where “perceptions shift and memories distend while fear seeps through the membrane of bold visions.” The 20-minute work integrates movement with video and a collection of tender, strange objects that map out the wondrous, curious and disjointed space of slumber.

In addition to Noelle’s stunning offering, audiences will be treated to a short excerpt from PLOT, a Dance Truck collaboration with choreographer, Blake Beckham that takes root at The Goat Farm in late July. For MINT, Beckham will perform alongside Stiles as she re-imagines some of the work’s choreographic content inside a truck bed filled with sod. Beckham and Stiles met while both earning MFA degrees at The Ohio State University.

The MINT Gallery is located at 145-B Sampson Street in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, behind the Irwin Street Market. While admission is free, donations to directly support the artists will be welcomed and encouraged. This performance is funded in part by the Regional Arts and Culture Council in Oregon.
